Website redesign that fixes what the old site got wrong

Rebuild a dated, slow or unmanageable website without throwing away the rankings and traffic it already has. We protect what's working and fix what isn't.

Redesign for the right reason

"It looks a bit old" is the reason people give. It's almost never the reason that matters. Plenty of plain, dated-looking websites bring in steady work because they load instantly, say clearly what the business does, and put the phone number where a thumb lands.

The reasons that actually justify spending money are more specific: the site takes eight seconds to load on 4G, half the buttons don't work on a phone, the enquiry form has been quietly broken since March, you can't update your own prices without emailing someone who no longer replies, or you're ranking on page one and still getting nothing from it.

So the first thing we do is work out which of those you've actually got. Sometimes the answer is that you need three fixes, not a rebuild, and we'll say so.

Protecting what you already have

If your current site has been up for a few years, it has accumulated something valuable even if it doesn't feel like it: indexed pages, backlinks, and a history with Google. A careless redesign throws that away overnight and you spend the next six months climbing back.

  • URL mapping. Every existing page gets a destination on the new site, with permanent redirects in place at launch. Nothing 404s.
  • Content audit before deletion. We check which pages actually bring in traffic before deciding what to cut. Sometimes an ugly page you forgot about is your best performer.
  • Titles and metadata preserved or improved. Never silently rewritten.
  • Launch checks. Indexing verified, sitemap resubmitted, Search Console watched for crawl errors in the weeks after go-live — not just on launch day.

The redesign that goes wrong

The classic failure: the new site launches with a "noindex" tag left over from the staging build. Google quietly drops every page. Nobody notices until enquiries stop six weeks later, by which point recovery takes months. It is entirely preventable with one check on launch day, and it happens constantly.

What changes, practically

  • Speed. Rebuilt as lightweight, hand-coded pages rather than a stack of plugins. This is usually the single most noticeable difference.
  • Mobile. Designed for the phone first, because that's where most of your enquiries are coming from.
  • The path to contact. Click-to-call, forms that work and get tested, and a clear next step on every page.
  • Editability. You get to change your own text, photos and prices without raising a support ticket.
  • Ownership. If the old arrangement left your domain or hosting in someone else's account, we move it into your name as part of the job.

Before you commit

If enquiries are the problem rather than looks, read my website gets traffic but no enquiries first — it's a free diagnostic and it may save you the cost of a redesign entirely. If nobody's finding the site at all, the issue is more likely local SEO than design.

Redesigns are quoted the same way as new builds: a fixed price agreed in writing before we start, typically in the same £799–£1,899 range depending on how many pages need to come across. Our guide to website costs explains what drives the difference.

Questions & answers

Redesign questions

Will a redesign lose my Google rankings?

It can, and that's the single biggest risk in any redesign. It happens when URLs change without redirects, when existing page content gets thrown away, or when the new site blocks search engines and nobody notices for a month. We map every existing URL to its new home before launch and keep the content that's already earning traffic.

Is it cheaper to redesign than to start again?

Not always. If the existing site is on a platform we'd have to fight, rebuilding from scratch is often faster and cheaper than unpicking it. What we keep is the content, the URLs and the rankings — not necessarily the code.

How do I know if I need a redesign or just a few fixes?

If the site loads fast, works on a phone and ranks reasonably but doesn't generate enquiries, that's usually a conversion problem and may need nothing more than layout and copy changes. If it's slow, breaks on mobile, or you can't edit it without calling someone, that's a redesign.

Can you work with my existing domain and email?

Yes. Your domain stays yours and keeps working throughout — we plan the switch so there's no downtime, and business email is never touched without telling you exactly what will happen and when.

What if I've lost access to my old site?

Very common, and usually recoverable. Domains can be reclaimed through the registrar, and we can rebuild from what's publicly visible if the old developer has gone quiet. Bring us what you have and we'll tell you what's retrievable.
